Mexican Peso Surges on Strong Economy and Softer US Negotiations
The Mexican Peso has strengthened significantly against the US dollar in recent weeks, with USD/MXN trading below 17. This appreciation is attributed to several factors, including a weaker Dollar and Mexico's strong economic performance.
According to Michael Pfister at Commerzbank, better-than-expected growth and smoother USMCA negotiations with the US have contributed to the Peso's gain. Additionally, easing core inflation and Banxico's pause in rate cuts have left real interest rates supportive for the currency.
The conflict in Iran has had a minimal impact on Mexico's economy, allowing it to maintain its momentum. Month-on-month core inflation has also been gradually moving towards the middle of the target band.
