Mimura Warns on Yen's Rise as Dollar Hits 156

Japan's top currency diplomat, Atsushi Mimura, has expressed concern over the yen's recent surge against the US dollar. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, he stated that the current levels of the yen are 'neither reassuring nor satisfying.'

Mimura's comments come as the dollar slipped below the 160 yen line in Tokyo, reaching the lower 156 yen range. This has left financial markets wary of possible currency intervention by the government and the Bank of Japan.

Just last month, authorities stepped into the market to prop up the yen when it fell against the dollar. Some analysts are now predicting that the BOJ may raise its key interest rate at its upcoming policy meeting on September 17-18.
