MLC Surges as Dollar and Euro Stall in Cuban Informal Market
The MLC (Freely Convertible Currency) has surprised the informal currency market in Cuba with a significant rise. Despite the dollar and euro experiencing no variation, the MLC's value has increased by 29.5 pesos compared to the previous day, equivalent to a rise of 5.8%. In weekly comparison, its price has accumulated an increase of 77 pesos, equivalent to 16.7%.
The current value of the MLC is around 539 Cuban pesos (CUP), while the dollar remains at 698 CUP and the euro at 795 CUP. The MLC's movement in the last month has been between a low of 408 CUP and a high of 542 CUP, with its current value placing it very close to the upper end of that range.
The Central Bank of Cuba's official exchange rate for Segment III is set at 662 CUP per dollar and 764 CUP per euro. The difference between this rate and the informal market values reflects the ongoing pressure on foreign currency demand in the Cuban economy.
