Mortgage Industry Told to Ditch Burnout Culture
At the Women in Mortgage Summit Canada in Toronto, Janne Farias, chief internal auditor at Wealth One Bank of Canada, spoke out against the notion that exhaustion is a sign of commitment. According to Farias, women in the mortgage industry often wear burnout like a badge and need to stop treating it as proof of dedication.
Farias emphasized that being tired all the time does not mean one is committed. She encouraged women to build systems around themselves that are resilient and can be delegated to others, rather than shouldering everything on their own.
Farias' comments were echoed by Sofia Hondrogiannis, associate vice-president of national distribution at TD Bank, who said balance doesn't mean being perfect at everything. Elena Robinson, vice-president of residential sales at First National Financial LP, also shared a similar sentiment, stating that women don't have to be the ones who do everything.
