Mortgage Rates Stuck in Neutral: What's Next for Canadians?
With interest rates at 2.25% since late 2025, Canadians are wondering what's next for their mortgages.
Mortgage professionals like myself have been asked repeatedly where interest rates are headed, but the truth is, we don't know.
We can watch the numbers, listen to economists, and understand how the mortgage market reacts, but predicting exactly when or if rates will move is impossible.
Currently, forecasts vary widely from remaining at 2.25% for an extended period to gradual increases in 2027, with some predictions suggesting a rate of up to 3.25% by then.
While there are good arguments on both sides, the economy has shown weakness and inflation is generally moving toward its target, but energy prices and trade uncertainty pose renewed risks.
