Murray Chong to Run for NZ First in New Plymouth

New Zealand First has named veteran councillor Murray Chong as its candidate for the upcoming election in New Plymouth. The party touted Chong's experience and dedication to honest public service, bureaucratic transparency, and prudent use of public money.

Chong has served on the council consecutively for 13 years and was chosen as one of three deputy mayors in 2025. He is set to take over as deputy mayor again in May 2027.

The party highlighted Chong's strong stance on issues such as growing the local economy through a return to oil and gas, protecting national sovereignty, and restoring democracy by embracing 'one country, one people, one law, one flag.'
