U.S. stocks rebounded strongly on Thursday after a day of uncertainty following the Federal Reserve's interest rate hike, with all three major indexes posting solid gains.

The Nasdaq Composite led the charge, surging 439.88 points or 1.69 percent to close at 26,418.30, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 316.14 points or 0.61 percent to finish at 51,778.04.

The Standard and Poor's 500 index also rose 85.95 points or 1.14 percent to close at 7,637.76.

Meanwhile, the U.S. dollar weakened against most major currencies, with nearly every major pair moving in the green except for the British pound, which slipped 0.17 percent versus the greenback.
