National Vows Economic Growth and No New Taxes Ahead of Election
National Party Leader Christopher Luxon has reaffirmed his party's commitment to building New Zealand's future, promising economic growth, no new taxes, and better services. In a recent statement, he highlighted National's past achievements in delivering tax relief and fixing the economy after inheriting a recession. The party claims that its focus on basic economic fixes has led to 2.6% growth in the year to June, outpacing several major economies.
National argues that the previous Labour Government's spending was excessive, tripling debt from $60 billion to almost $180 billion and doubling as a share of GDP. Luxon asserts that Labour remains economically incapable of delivering a secure financial future for New Zealanders. He warns that a potential coalition between Labour and other parties could lead to at least nine new taxes.
National has proposed its own plan, which includes compulsory KiwiSaver with higher contributions and a $1500 Baby Boost, paid parental leave extension from 26 to 30 weeks, and better school results through replacing NCEA and regular assessment. The party also promises tougher consequences for criminals and more police patrols.
