National's Competition Pledge Takes a Hit from Banks

National's campaign on competition may be undermined by its own actions regarding banks, according to Labour MP Nicola Willis.

Willis pointed out that taking a regulatory baseball bat to supermarket duopoly is a crowd-pleaser for the 2026 election, alongside cutting people’s taxes.

The move would allow voters to keep more of their pay packet while promising to take on the supermarkets, which are seen as a major player in New Zealand's economy.
