Nepal Floods Leave Australians and Canadians Unaccounted For as Bank of Canada Weighs Interest Rate Decision
Nepal is still reeling from devastating flash floods that occurred near the border with China. The number of Australians missing in the disaster has decreased from 43 to 38 after five were confirmed safe overnight, according to Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
Families of Canadian nationals affected by the disaster are waiting anxiously for news on their loved ones. At least one family member, Neeral Patel's cousin Ishan Patel, is still unaccounted for. The federal government has 10 officials on the ground in Nepal to support Canadians and help locate the missing.
In other news, the Bank of Canada is set to make its sixth interest-rate decision of the year today, with most economists expecting another hold at 2.25 per cent. This comes as inflation climbed to three per cent in July amidst trade tensions with the United States and higher global energy prices.
