New Zealand Economy Faces Risks from Rising Oil Prices
New Zealand's economic recovery is facing significant risks according to Reserve Bank of New Zealand Governor Anna Breman. In a speech given in Dunedin, Breman stated that recent increases in global oil prices and longer-term interest rates reflect the challenging environment the country faces.
Breman noted that if higher oil prices persist, it would lead to 'somewhat' higher inflation than previously forecast. The economic recovery is expected to strengthen and broaden, supported by exports and a gradual increase in household spending.
