New Zealand Economy Posts Modest Growth in Q2
New Zealand's economy showed resilience in Q2 2026, growing 0.2% quarter-on-quarter. This is slower than the upwardly revised 0.9% expansion in Q1 but slightly above forecasts of 0.1%. The growth was mainly driven by goods-producing industries, which rose 1.3%, supported by wholesale trade.
The service industries also grew, albeit marginally at 0.2%. This increase can be attributed to higher output in public administration and safety, information media and telecommunications, and healthcare and social assistance. In contrast, primary industries contracted 0.3%, weighed down by mining activities that declined by 0.4%.
