New Zealand Parliament Dissolved Ahead of Election Campaign
New Zealand's parliament was officially dissolved on Thursday, marking the end of its final sitting on September 23. This move ushers in the official campaign period for the November 7 general election.
The ruling National Party and opposition Labor Party launched their election campaigns separately in Auckland events on Sunday. These launches are typically designed to rally supporters and provide an opportunity for parties to unveil new policies addressing New Zealanders' top concerns.
A recent Ipsos Issues Monitor, a public opinion survey, identified the top five issues as cost of living, healthcare, economy, unemployment, and housing. A 1News-Verian poll released this week projected Labor, the Greens, the Maori party, and the Opportunity Party to win a combined 65 seats, compared with 59 for the incumbent coalition.
