Nexon's Stock Soars on Record-High Dividend Announcement
Nexon, a Japanese listed company, announced a special dividend of 415 yen per share on August 14th, causing its stock price to skyrocket. The dividend increase is more than 10 times that of last year's regular dividend, and the total amount of the special dividend amounts to about 324 billion yen (approximately $3 trillion won). This move comes after Nexon announced its second-quarter earnings, which showed a sales increase of 2% from the same period last year. The company also reported a record-high quarterly sales for its 'Maple Story' franchise and Embark Studio's 'Ark Raiders', which has sold over 16 million copies.
The stock price rose to 3,580 yen in after-hours trading after the market closed, with trading volume plummeting to a quarter of its usual level due to limited selling. This move has been interpreted as a temporary measure to resolve excess funds by securities information company Pisco. However, there are cautions that the special dividend is one-time and may not be paid every year.
