Nikkei Index Holds at 65,018.95 Amid BOJ Rally and Silver Week Holiday
The Tokyo Stock Exchange remained closed for Silver Week holidays from September 21 to 23, leaving the Nikkei 225 at its Friday close of 65,018.95 after a 1.38% rally driven by the Bank of Japan's rate hike.
The index had risen on Friday as two board members dissented and investors judged the overall message as less hawkish than feared.
The yen weakened to around 157 per US dollar after the decision, supporting exporters but raising import costs for households already facing high food prices.
