NZ GDP Edges Up, Fed Raises Rates in Bid for Price Stability
New Zealand's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) saw a slight increase of 0.2 percent in the June 2026 quarter compared to the March 2026 quarter, according to recent data from Stats.govt.nz. This growth was also reflected in expenditure on GDP, which rose by 0.4 percent during the same period.
However, real gross national disposable income took a hit, falling by 0.4 percent. In seasonally adjusted nominal terms, the economy saw some mixed results, with GDP per capita rising by just 0.1 percent.
The Federal Reserve's decision to raise interest rates was announced around the same time as the NZ GDP release, with the target range for the federal funds rate increased by a quarter of a percentage point to 3-3/4 to 4 percent. This move is seen as an effort to achieve a 'timelier return' to price stability.
