NZ Passport-Free Trial Aims for Seamless Trans-Tasman Travel
A proposed trial for passport-free travel between Australia and New Zealand could become a reality if the latter's National Party is re-elected.
The trial, which would run before the 2028 ICC Men's T20 World Cup jointly hosted by both countries, aims to make travel more seamless.
Under the proposed system, passengers would submit their passport details and digital declaration on a smartphone before departing, replacing physical passports at the gate.
New Zealand's National Tourism Minister Louise Upston said that making it easier for Australians to visit New Zealand would result in 'more visitors exploring our cities and regions which results in more incomes for local businesses, more jobs opportunities for New Zealanders, and a stronger economy.'
