NZD Stumbles as RBNZ Cautiousness Catches Up with Fed Hawkishness
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) struggled to build on its modest gains from yesterday and declined slightly in the Asian session today. However, prices remained above their lowest level since July 9, which was touched on Wednesday, trading around 0.5730.
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand's (RBNZ) cautious stance is seen as a key factor behind the NZD's underperformance. The bank's hawkish outlook, combined with the Federal Reserve's (Fed) interest rate hike and expectations for further tightening, has limited the downside for the US Dollar (USD).
The combination of diverging forces has held back bearish traders from placing aggressive bets, acting as a tailwind for the NZD/USD pair. However, the upside is capped by the ongoing geopolitical uncertainties and oil-driven inflation fears.
