NZD Surges as US Treasury Boosts Buybacks
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) surged against the US Dollar (USD), reaching above the 0.5930 mark.
This move is largely driven by a broad weakness in the Greenback, rather than any significant changes within New Zealand itself.
The trigger behind this shift was the United States Treasury Department's announcement to at least double its buyback operations for longer-dated coupon securities, aiming to support liquidity and cap recent increases in long-end yields.
The US 10-year yield fell back towards 4.65% after trading above 4.70%, as a result of this move.
