NZD Surges on Strongest Business Outlook Index Since Early 2023
The New Zealand Dollar strengthened against major peers on Tuesday after the ANZ Business Outlook Index posted a sharp jump in July, signaling a marked improvement in business sentiment across the country.
The index rose to its highest level in months, fueled by stronger confidence among New Zealand businesses. The survey showed improvements in expectations for own activity, investment intentions, and employment. The headline index rose to +27.1 from +6.1 in June, a swing that caught many analysts by surprise.
The improved business outlook suggests that the domestic economy may be finding a floor after a period of sluggish growth. This reduction in risk supports the currency, leading to gains for the NZD/USD pair and the NZD/AUD cross.
