NZD Tumbles as Narrowing Rate Gap Sinks Kiwi
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) continues its decline against the US Dollar (USD), hitting fresh lows. The NZD's slide is attributed to a narrowing gap between the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's (RBNZ) Official Cash Rate and the US Federal Reserve's policy rate, now at 3.75%-4.00%. This disparity makes the USD more attractive to investors, boosting its value.
The recent hike in interest rates by the RBNZ has not had a significant impact on the NZD/USD pair. The central bank may raise rates again on October 28, but it's unclear if this will reverse the trend. New Zealand's economy is closely tied to China, its largest trading partner, and any weakness in the Chinese economy could further weigh on the NZD.
The market is awaiting US payrolls data due out on Friday, which is expected to show a slowdown in job growth. A weaker-than-expected reading would likely lead to more selling pressure on the NZD.
