NZD/USD Stalls After Brief Gain on New Zealand's Stronger-than-Expected GDP Data
The NZD/USD pair experienced a brief surge in price following New Zealand's GDP data release, which showed a better-than-expected 0.2% quarterly growth rate.
Despite this positive news, the pair's gains were short-lived as it struggled to capitalize on the move due to the strong bullish sentiment surrounding the US Dollar (USD), bolstered by the Federal Reserve's (Fed) signal of at least one more rate hike this year.
The NZD/USD pair is currently facing a bearish bias, with a declining Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) line and an Relative Strength Index (RSI) hovering near oversold territory around 30.
However, the upbeat data helped the pair defend the 78.6% Fibonacci retracement at 0.5706, making it prudent to wait for a break below this support level before placing fresh bearish bets.
