NZD/USD Surges as Weak USD Overpowers Chinese Economic Data
The New Zealand Dollar has reached its highest level since early June, trading around 0.5915 against the US Dollar (USD) on Monday, up 0.37% on the day.
This rally is mainly driven by the weakness of the US Dollar, which remains under pressure after a series of economic releases in the United States prompted investors to scale back expectations regarding interest rates.
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) has maintained its hawkish tone, despite softer inflation data. Analysts at Commerzbank argue that the RBNZ is unlikely to raise interest rates for a second consecutive time in September due to declining inflation figures.
However, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East could revive demand for safe-haven assets and provide some support to the US Dollar.
