NZDF Space Security Contribution Renewed Until August 2028
The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) has had its contribution to Operation Olympic Defender renewed for another two years. This operation is focused on maintaining secure and reliable access to space-based capabilities and services.
New Zealand joined this United States-led operation in 2024, alongside existing partners Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the UK. The goal of Olympic Defender is to support the security, sustainability, and resilience of the space domain by coordinating member nations' space capabilities and enhancing space domain awareness.
Space-based services play a significant role in both New Zealand's economy and military operations, supporting communications, satellite navigation, timing systems, and intelligence collection. The NZDF's participation helps assure continued access to these services and contributes to the safe and responsible use of space.
