NZX 50 Index Rebounds on Tech Sector Strength
The New Zealand Stock Exchange saw a positive start to the week as the NZX 50 index recovered from its recent losses, closing at 13,774.93 and up by 75.65 points (+0.55%). The strong performance of global tech shares, easing crude oil prices, and higher closing levels of US stock exchanges contributed to this rebound.
The technology sector led the charge, with Fisher & Paykel Healthcare gaining 1.13% and Port of Tauranga climbing 2.72%. The decline in international oil prices helped lower inflation expectations, alleviating concerns about further interest rate hikes.
However, there was caution in the market due to the 3.6% drop in New Zealand's building permits in June and weak Chinese factory production data. Investors are also awaiting the release of labor market figures in New Zealand, which may impact market movements.
