Oil Price Rebound Fuels Fed Hawkishness
The recent oil price rebound has given the Federal Reserve (Fed) a reason to maintain its hawkish stance on interest rates. According to Fawad Razaqzada, StoneX Media Market Analyst, the elevated energy costs are feeding into Fed warnings that inflation may prove sticky.
Rising oil prices weigh heavily on the currencies of major energy importers, including the euro, pound, and yen. This has led to a strong US dollar performance. On the other hand, cheaper energy could potentially lead markets to price out European Central Bank (ECB) and Bank of England (BoE) hikes faster than Fed tightening.
The oil market is also facing supply risks due to a cool response from Tehran and a cargo vessel incident in the Strait of Hormuz. This has kept crude oil prices under pressure.
