Oregon Nonfarm Payroll Employment Drops by 4,100 Jobs in July
Oregon's nonfarm payroll employment declined by 4,100 jobs in July, following a revised gain of 1,300 jobs in June. The Oregon Employment Department reports that 2,100,219 people are employed and 118,301 unemployed in the state.
The largest job losses were seen in professional and business services (-1,800 jobs), leisure and hospitality (-900 jobs), and government (-700 jobs). In contrast, retail trade added 500 jobs in July.
The Oregon Employment Department also reported that the state's unemployment rate remains at 5.2%, which is unchanged from January. This is higher than the U.S. unemployment rate of 4.1% in June and 4.2% in July.
