Oregon Unemployment Rate Holds Steady Amid Job Losses

Oregon's unemployment rate held steady at 5.1% in August, despite another month of job losses and weakness in several major industries.

The state saw a decline of 800 jobs in its nonfarm payroll employment, following a revised loss of 1,800 jobs in July.

The largest losses were in professional and business services, which shed 1,100 jobs, while construction added 700 jobs and retail trade gained 500.

Over the past year, Oregon's payroll employment dropped by 10,900 jobs, a decline of 0.5%, with manufacturing experiencing the steepest losses at 6,800 jobs.
