Oregon Unemployment Rate Steady at 5.1% in August Amid Job Losses
Oregon's unemployment rate remained steady in August at 5.1%, according to the Oregon Employment Department.
This marks little change from July, when the state's jobless rate was 5.2%. Over the past 18 months, Oregon's unemployment rate has stayed within a narrow band between 5.0% and 5.3%
The state's seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment declined by 800 jobs in August, following a revised loss of 1,800 jobs in July.
The largest losses were seen in professional and business services, which shed 1,100 jobs, while construction added 700 jobs and retail trade gained 500 jobs.
