P.E.I. Fibre Artists Rely on Local Support Amid Trade War
The P.E.I. Fibre Festival in Canada drew dozens of vendors and attendees interested in fibre art, including knitting, crocheting, and felting.
Vendors such as Kim Doherty-Smith's Fleece and Harmony, a mill that processes locally sourced wool, said local support is critical in today's economy. The festival provided a platform for vendors to connect with community members.
The trade war between Canada and the U.S. has affected businesses like Doherty-Smith's, which used to receive 40% of its revenue from U.S. customers. However, this number has dwindled to about 10%, partly due to increased duties and taxes on imported goods.
