Palladium Prices Soar on Supply Concerns and Weakening Dollar
Palladium (XPDUSD) prices surged 2.06% on July 30, reaching $1269.84, with a 7-day increase of 1.22%. This rise is primarily driven by concerns over South African production facilities, which are facing structural challenges due to the seasonal peak demand cycle.
Ongoing energy grid issues have led to reports of curtailed smelting and refining activity in South Africa, which accounts for a significant portion of global palladium supply. As a result, any perceived threat to output levels tightens the market balance and forces a repricing of near-term availability.
The weakening US Dollar has also contributed to the price increase, making dollar-denominated commodities more attractive to international buyers. The softening dollar has acted as a catalyst for institutional investors to re-enter long positions, further buoying the price action during the session.
