The British pound slipped against both the euro and U.S. dollar on Friday due to escalating Middle East tensions and caution ahead of the closely watched U.S. payrolls report.

London - The pound was 0.1% lower against the dollar at $1.3438, while against the euro it fell to 85.76 pence. This decline is attributed to growing concerns over diplomatic efforts in the Middle East and potential threats to key shipping lanes such as the Strait of Hormuz.

Brent crude futures also dipped slightly on the day to $82.16 per barrel, indicating a response to increased geopolitical risks.

Market analysts expect U.S. nonfarm payrolls to have risen by 80,000 last month after an increase of 57,000 in June, according to a Reuters survey of economists. This data could provide clues about the Federal Reserve's interest rate path ahead as markets weigh the chance of a potential interest rate hike.
