Pound Falls Against Euro After BoE Maintains Interest Rates

The Pound (GBP) experienced a modest decline against the Euro (EUR) on Thursday following the Bank of England's (BoE) decision to maintain interest rates at their current level.

The BoE, as expected, voted 6-3 in favor of keeping the rate unchanged despite fresh inflation risks. The voting split and the bank's statement were seen as leaning more dovish than some investors had hoped, which contributed to sterling sentiment softening.

However, the bank did signal that it would slow down the pace of its quantitative tightening program, a move that triggered a sharp fall in UK gilt yields and relieved some of the pressure on the Pound.

The Euro was also subdued on Thursday, nursing its wounds after its strong inverse relationship with the US Dollar (USD) proved a major liability on Wednesday.
