Pound Falls as Hawkish Fed Comments Boost Dollar
The British pound fell against the US dollar on Tuesday as hawkish comments from Federal Reserve officials boosted the greenback. The EUR/GBP pair also declined, with the euro experiencing a similar downturn.
The pound's value dropped to $1.3354, down 0.10% for the day, while the euro slipped to $1.1454, down 0.11%. Francesco Pesole, FX strategist at ING, attributed the dollar's strength to hawkish Fed commentary.
Austan Goolsbee, Chicago Fed President, and Alberto Musalem, St. Louis Fed President, both emphasized the need for gradual tightening to combat inflation. Their comments supported front-end USD rates despite a brief dip in oil prices below $100 per barrel.
