Pound Falls as US Yields Fuel Dollar Surge, Traders Eye GBP/USD Downside Options
The British Pound has fallen against the US Dollar this week, slipping by 0.38% as the dollar extends its gains despite mixed economic data from the US.
The GBP/USD exchange rate touched an intraday peak of 1.3258 on Tuesday but later dropped to 1.3205 and remained at 0.14% lower at about 1.3235 by the end of the European session.
The US Treasury yields have been driving this market movement, with the Dollar Index (DXY) reaching a two-month high of 101.50. As a result, the pound is facing intense pressure and has tested crucial support levels near 1.3200.
Derivative traders are advised to monitor the widening yield spread between US and UK Treasury yields as they navigate this volatility in the coming weeks.
