Pound Falls to Lowest Since June as BoE Doubts Rate Hike
The Pound Sterling hit its lowest point since June as BoE external member Taylor expressed doubts about raising interest rates due to energy prices. The GBP/USD pair fell to 1.3200 on Tuesday, a level not seen since late June, following Taylor's comments. He argued that higher energy prices alone do not justify further rate hikes unless they remain elevated for an extended period and spread into broader inflation.
Taylor, one of the six BoE members who voted to hold the UK's Bank Rate at 3.75% on September 17, emphasized the need for more evidence before considering another hike. He pointed to the upcoming agents' survey of firms' pay plans, due in January, as crucial in informing the BoE's decision.
The BoE will make its next decision on November 5, and Taylor's comments may have an impact on the market's expectations for a rate hike. The Pound Sterling's value is heavily influenced by monetary policy decisions made by the Bank of England, with interest rates being a key factor in determining its value.
