The British pound is gaining strength as UK consumer inflation accelerates in August. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 0.5% from 0.3% in July, while the yearly CPI climbed to 3.1% from 2.9%. The core CPI has remained steady at 2.6%, matching market expectations.

The Producer Price Index (PPI) also beat forecasts, rising to a 6.1% year-over-year rate in August from 4.9% in July. The Output PPI accelerated to 3.7% Y-o-Y from 3.1% in the previous month.

The pound's gain is limited by markets bracing for a Federal Reserve rate hike, which could impact its value. For now, GBP/USD trades at $1.3485 but remains 0.3% lower on the week so far. In contrast, GBP/INR futures are seen trading at 129.53, up marginally on the day.
