Pound Rises as BoE Warns of Rate Hikes Amid Energy Price Pressures
The value of the British Pound has increased slightly to $1.325 as investors react to hawkish comments from Bank of England policymakers.
Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey stated that persistently high energy prices would make it challenging for the central bank to keep interest rates on hold.
MPC members Sarah Breeden and Clare Lombardelli also signaled their support for a rate hike, citing rising energy prices as a risk to inflation remaining above target.
The warnings come at a difficult time for Prime Minister Burnham and Chancellor Healey, who are trying to ease cost-of-living pressures while maintaining confidence in the economy ahead of the October 28 budget.
