Pound Steady as Euro Struggles to Gain Momentum Amid Strong German Trade Data
The Pound to Euro exchange rate has remained relatively steady on Tuesday despite the release of strong German trade data. At the time of writing, GBP/EUR was trading at €1.1644, showing little change from the day before.
The Euro struggled for direction, with the positive impact of Germany's July trade data being offset by renewed demand for the US Dollar following Monday's Labor Day holiday in the US. The stronger-than-expected German trade figures helped the single currency, as the country recorded its widest trade surplus since August 2024.
The Pound also failed to gain significant momentum on Tuesday, with little in the way of UK economic data to drive trading. Relatively stable UK bond markets helped keep Sterling movements contained, and the currency was able to shrug off some concerns surrounding trade and foreign policy.
