Pound Sterling Climbs Above 1.32 Ahead of Fed Minutes Release
The Pound Sterling (GBP) saw a slight rise against the US Dollar (USD) on Tuesday, driven by a more optimistic market mood that reduced demand for the safe-haven dollar. At the time of writing, the GBP/USD exchange rate stood at approximately $1.3239, up from its opening level earlier in the day.
The USD faced reduced demand as investors shifted towards riskier assets, buoyed by a rally in Wall Street's technology sector and a drop in oil prices. Despite this pullback, the USD remained near multi-month highs, supported by elevated US Treasury yields and a strong performance last week.
Sterling traded within a narrow range as investors awaited comments from Bank of England (BoE) policymaker Catherine Mann. Mann, who voted for a 25-basis-point rate hike in September, could influence GBP traders if she signals a preference for higher borrowing costs, potentially strengthening expectations for a November rate increase.
The next significant catalyst for GBP/USD is expected to be the release of the Federal Reserve's September meeting minutes on Wednesday. Investors will be looking for clues about the Fed's stance on further interest rate hikes. A hawkish tone could revive expectations of tighter policy, while a focus on a December increase might support the USD. Meanwhile, Sterling's gains could be limited ahead of Thursday's BoE speakers, including Governor Andrew Bailey.
