Pound Sterling Defies US Yield Surge as BoE Hike Bets Build
The Pound Sterling has defied expectations by posting modest gains against the US Dollar despite a surge in US Treasury yields. The GBP/USD exchange rate currently stands at 1.3252, up 0.18% on the day.
The unexpected move comes as investors reassess the likelihood of a Bank of England (BoE) interest rate hike. Several BoE members have recently warned about upside inflation risks, lending support to the Pound Sterling.
The GBP has also gained against the Euro, with EUR/GBP trading around 0.8564, down 0.40%. This comes after recent weakness in the British currency, which was attributed to hawkish remarks from BoE Deputy Governor Dave Ramsden.
