Pound Sterling Rises on Healey's Fiscal Discipline Pledge
The UK's pound sterling (GBP/USD) has seen an uptick in value as investors respond positively to Finance Minister John Healey's pledge for fiscal discipline.
Healey's commitment to curbing rising costs and giving regions greater power to attract private investment has helped restore the UK's credibility in the international bond market, with 10-year gilt yields stabilizing around 5.15%.
This move is seen as a relief after last week's surge in borrowing costs, which were fueled by renewed inflation concerns amid the U.S.-Iran conflict and uncertainty over Prime Minister Andy Burnham's spending plans.
The pound has also been buoyed by data showing UK firms increased full-time hiring in August for the first time in four years, as well as a lack of rate hike expectations from the Bank of England (BoE) next week.
