Pound Surges to Six-Month High Against US Dollar Amid Treasury Concerns
The Pound (GBP) surged to a six-month high against the US Dollar (USD), reaching 1.3675, as concerns over US Treasury intervention and long-term bond yields weighed on the Dollar. The UK's services PMI increased to 52.8 in August, exceeding expectations, while new orders improved, offsetting a modest decline in manufacturing activity.
The strong UK data reinforced expectations that the Bank of England may raise interest rates before year-end, despite economists generally expecting policy to remain unchanged. US Treasury efforts to suppress long-term bond yields have also contributed to Dollar weakness, with some analysts warning that this could ultimately undermine confidence in the currency.
