Pound to Euro Rate Faces September Reversal as ECB Hike Looms
The Pound to Euro exchange rate has remained stable around 1.1685 this week, but September could bring significant changes due to upcoming interest rate decisions in Europe and the UK.
Markets are increasingly expecting the European Central Bank (ECB) to raise interest rates, which may threaten the Pound's yield advantage. The Bank of England is expected to remain on hold, keeping Sterling's substantial yield support under scrutiny.
UBS forecasts a 12-month view of 1.1765 for GBP/EUR, citing improving UK sentiment and yield demand as supporting factors for Sterling. In contrast, ING expects the pair to retreat to 1.11 over the same period due to eroded Pound yield support.
The ECB's decision will be closely watched after German business confidence data exceeded expectations, reaching a 12-month high. This has fueled speculation that the ECB may raise rates at its next meeting in two weeks' time.
