Pound Tumbles Amid Fears of Coordinated Intervention
The British Pound has lost ground against the Japanese Yen as intervention chatter grows louder. Sterling pared losses to remain down by about 0.17% at roughly 209.45.
Market pressure on the cross has intensified due to concerns over coordinated US-Japan action to support the Japanese currency, which has strengthened broadly in recent days.
Fears of intervention have been fueled by comments from Japan's Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama, who stated that President Donald Trump mentioned the Yen's weakness during a meeting with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Tuesday. Katayama also referenced principles set at the time of a previous joint intervention in July.
As markets navigate this uncertain landscape, derivative traders are advised to prepare for heightened volatility in GBP/JPY pairs over the coming weeks.
