Premier League Spending Creates Transfer Market 'Bubble'
La Liga clubs are bracing themselves for the financial impact of Premier League spending. According to Marta Alonso, deputy director general for institutional affairs at La Liga, English clubs have blown past their expected spending limit, reaching 1.865 billion euros with a month left in the transfer window.
The increased outlay is causing price inflation, which will force Spanish clubs to pay higher sums to sign players and make it harder to attract talent from England. This has led La Liga to sound a warning about the 'bubble' created by Premier League spending, which Alonso believes is unsustainable.
La Liga expects its clubs to spend around 800 million euros this summer, with Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid leading the charge. However, Spanish top-flight clubs have only spent around 400 million euros so far, half of what was expected.
