Presidents Cup 2026: Teams Gear Up for Foursomes and Four-Ball Showdowns
The Presidents Cup returns for its 16th edition at Medinah Country Club, featuring the best players from Team USA and the International Team. The biennial team event consists of 30 matches played over four days, with a 28-pound sterling silver trophy plated in 24-carat gold crafted by Tiffany & Co. up for grabs.
The competition is split between team and individual play, starting with the first 18 matches as team contests. Nine are played in the Foursomes format, while nine use Four-ball. The final 12 matches are Singles, played on Sunday.
Foursomes is a two-player team match-play format where players from the same side share one ball and take turns hitting it until the hole is completed. One hits the drive, and then the other player strictly alternates shots for the rest of the hole. The side with the lower score wins the hole, with each match worth one full point or half a point to each side if tied after 18 holes.
Four-ball, on the other hand, allows each member of a pair to play their own ball throughout the hole, resulting in four balls in play. The better individual score from each team is compared against the opposing pair's better score, with the side recording the lower score winning the hole.
