Rakuten Securities Expands to Taiwan Stock Market
Rakuten Securities is set to offer trading in Taiwanese stocks starting from December 2026, expanding access to the market for Japanese retail investors. This move makes Rakuten Securities the only company in its industry segment in Japan to offer Taiwanese stocks.
The online brokerage plans to cover about 50 major Taiwanese listings, with a focus on technology and financial stocks, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., one of the world's key semiconductor suppliers. Typically, shares are traded in lots of 1,000, but Rakuten Securities will support odd-lot trading, allowing customers to buy as few as a single share.
The service will also enable settlement in Japanese yen, eliminating the need for customers to have Taiwan dollars beforehand. This move is intended to meet the growing demand for diversified global investment from retail clients in Japan, according to Rakuten Securities.
