Ramsden Marks New Chapter in Quantitative Tightening Policy
Bank of England Deputy Governor Dave Ramsden marked the beginning of a new chapter in Quantitative Tightening (QT) policy, noting that it's been nearly three years since his last speech on the topic.
Ramsden spoke at an event co-hosted by the Money, Macro and Finance Society, where he highlighted the progress made so far and emphasized the need for a new approach to unwinding assets built up through Quantitative Easing.
The MPC's September 2026 decision on QT was accompanied by announcements from the Bank of England and HM Treasury, which together signal a shift in policy strategy. Ramsden stressed that this marked the beginning of 'the next chapter' in QT, rather than a complete overhaul of existing policies.
