Rand Holds Steady Ahead of SARB Rate Decision Amid Dollar Strength
The South African rand is experiencing relative stability ahead of Wednesday's interest rate decision by the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) Monetary Policy Committee.
This comes as markets are finding firmer footing due to greater clarity around the US Federal Reserve's interest rate path, boosting investor confidence.
However, the local unit is trading at R16.26 to the US dollar, and higher US interest rates may support the dollar and potentially weigh on emerging market currencies.
Viv Govender, a Portfolio Manager at Rand Swiss, notes that an uptick in uncertainty worldwide has contributed to the strengthening of the US dollar.
